Namuwongo Blazers secured a well-deserved 88-75 victory against Kampala Rockets in the National Basketball League encounter at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Despite having a six-man roster on the day, Kampala Rockets started well, taking a seven-point lead (27-20) at the end of the opening stanza.
The Blazers greatly improved their defence in the second quarter, thus levelling the game 23-23 going into the long break.
Coming from a long break, the Kampala Rockets were limited to only 13 points as the Blazers opened a 12-point lead (68-56) going into the final period.
Roxine Ahumuza concluded the game with a shot from downtown as the Kampala Rockets trailed by 13 points.
It’s a worrying state for the Kampala Rockets, who have found themselves in financial struggles. This has limited the team’s training time.
But with the great fight against the Blazers, one would think Kampala Rockets could be a better side if at all they put their house in order.
Fataki Nyembo (18 points), Innocent Ochera (17 points) and Peter Obleng (13 points) led the scoring chart for the Blazers in double digits.
On the other hand, Gideon Kasasa (22 points), Francis Kasinde (17 points), and Shafik Kinyera (11 points) scored double digits for Kampala Rockets.
