Ugandan authorities have received 24 herds of cattle recovered from Teretenya in South Sudan, months after they were stolen from Lamwaka B village, Aringa parish, Potika sub-county in Lamwo district.
The recovered animals were raided between January and March 2026.
While receiving the cattle, the Resident District Commissioner of Lamwo, William Komakech, welcomed the recovery and called for the immediate return of the remaining animals.
“This recovery gives hope to the affected families, because cattle are not only a source of wealth, but also part of the Acholi cultural heritage,” Komakech said.
The Commissioner of Ikotos County in South Sudan, Timon Loboi who led the South Sudanese team, said authorities in his country were committed to ensuring that all the missing animals are returned and that compensation would be considered for any that may have died or been lost.
Loboi called for peaceful coexistence and stronger cross-border relations between communities in Uganda and South Sudan.
The 5 Division Deputy Commander, Colonel Gai Mpadwa, said the recovery and handover reflected growing trust, cooperation, and commitment to peace and security along the Uganda-South Sudan border.
