Take a closer look at the career of Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, whose journey from state attorney to High Court judge reflects decades of service within Uganda’s justice system. Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha has built a distinguished legal career spanning over two decades in Uganda’s justice system. Appointed to the High Court in August 2021 by Yoweri Museveni, she rose through the ranks from a state attorney to one of the country’s senior judicial officers.

She began her legal journey in 1999 within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Uganda, where she served in various roles, including Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in charge of inspections, quality assurance, research, and training. Before joining the bench, she led the Anti-Corruption Department, handling major corruption and money laundering cases with a conviction rate exceeding 80 percent, while also playing a key role in asset recovery efforts.

Justice Khaukha contributed to improving the handling of cases involving children and vulnerable groups, including the introduction of child-friendly court initiatives. She also held leadership positions such as heading the Kampala Regional Office and serving in the Land Crimes Department, and participated in drafting key legislation on anti-corruption, whistleblower protection, and anti-money laundering.

She holds a law degree from Makerere University, a postgraduate diploma from the Law Development Centre, and a master’s degree in institutional management from the Uganda Management Institute. She is also known for openly embracing her Christian faith alongside her professional responsibilities.
