City Oilers will be aiming to maintain their perfect start to the National Basketball League season when they face JT Jaguars on Friday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The Oilers come into the contest in dominant form in a season they look determined to reclaim the league title they lost last season to the Nam Blazers, who ended their decade-long reign with a historic maiden championship victory.

This season, however, the Oilers have responded with intent. They opened their campaign with a statement 74-65 win over the Blazers and have since gone on to secure five more consecutive victories to remain unbeaten.

Their most recent outing saw them cruise to a commanding 76-43 win over JKL Dolphins on Sunday.

The Oilers set the tone early, storming to a 24-06 first-quarter lead and maintaining control throughout the game. They also dominated the boards, winning the rebounding battle 49-40.

Joel Kayiira led the scoring with 15 points, while Rogers Dauna and Edgar Munaaba contributed 13 and 12 points respectively in a balanced team performance.

Notably, the Oilers did not have to rely heavily on key players such as Fayed Baale, Titus Lual, and Landry Ndikumana, underlining the depth within their squad as the result looked beyond doubt well before the final buzzer.

JT Jaguars, meanwhile, head into the fixture with mixed confidence having won four of their seven games this season. They are on a two-game winning streak, having registered victories over UMU Flames and Victoria Crocs.

In their win against UMU Flames, William George starred with a game-high 22 points, while Peter Sifuma recorded an impressive double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds.

Last season’s meetings between the two sides produced mixed outcomes. The Jaguars claimed two regular-season wins over the Oilers, but the latter responded emphatically in the playoffs, sweeping the quarterfinal series 2-0.
