National Basketball League newcomers Pearl Queens have collected their first win of the season after a 50-49 victory over KIU Rangers on Wednesday at Abja Park in Naalya.

The Queens came into this fixture on the back of defeats against JT Lady Jaguars and KCCA Leopards.

And they were on the brink of another defeat after trailing by 10 points after the third quarter against the Rangers.

But they won the last quarter 20-09, to secure their maiden win in top flight

Agatha Kamwada finally lived to the billing with 10 points while Rosiana Mungwapa Mpokfuri and Jane Chisome Iriele added 13 and 12 rebounds respectively in the win.

Anena Cinderella Charity had 10 points and 15 rebounds while Ines Kanyamuneza and Sharon Kirabo had 15 and 14 points respectively but in defeat.

Coached by Angella Namirimu, the Queens outrebounded KIU 61-52 despite shooting poorly 4-for-33 from three.

The Rangers committed 25 turnovers and had just 10 points off the bench.

It’s the first defeat of the season for KIU Rangers who earlier beat Nabisunsa and Angels.
