Pope Leo XIV is preparing for his most ambitious overseas trip yet, embarking on a historic ten-day tour across four African countries. The first American pope, elected in May last year, succeeded the late Pope Francis as leader of the 1.4-billion-member Catholic Church. Pope Leo will visit 11 cities and towns in Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea, taking 18 flights along the way. The tour will kick off with a visit to Algeria on Monday, April 13. We take you back in history to revisit the papal visits to Africa, all of which began in Uganda.
