The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) of Amolatar Obonyo Magwar has issued a stern warning to leaders of the PDM SACCO within the district regarding a fraudulent individual extorting money from local residents.
This imposter has been promising to secure motorcycles for SACCO officials from the government, targeting unsuspecting wananchi.
Speaking during a press conference held on Tuesday at his office, the Deputy RDC alerted the public about the scammer who operates using two different phone numbers: 0784183310 and 0793508528.
These numbers are registered under different names, making it difficult to track the culprit. He urged anyone with relevant information about these masqueraders to come forward and assist security agencies in apprehending them and ensuring they face legal consequences.
According to the Deputy RDC, the PDM funds are a government initiative aimed at alleviating poverty among the people.
“Therefore, anyone violating the program’s guidelines is effectively opposing the Government of Uganda,” he said.
In a separate but related concern, Obonyo expressed disappointment over certain churches in Amolatar that mislead residents by promising spiritual prayers for wealth, good academic results, and successful businesses.
He noted that these religious institutions often end up collecting large sums of hard-earned money from people under false pretences, which further exacerbates poverty in the community.
“Some religious leaders exploit the faith and hope of our people, turning prayers into profiteering schemes that do more harm than good for our communities,” he said.
