President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, is expected in Lango on April 18, 2026, for a special thanksgiving and total victory celebration.

His visits will follow the January election in which the Lango sub-region was ranked as the best sub-region that contributed the most to the 2026 general election.

On Monday, April 6, 2026, in Lira City, the NRM chairperson for Lira City West Division, Tonny Olipa spoke to tndNews, Uganda, thanking the entire people of Lango, especially those from Lira City West Division for trusting President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with their votes.

He also extended appreciation to the NRM flag bearers who emerged victorious in the recent 2026 general election.

Olipa called for teamwork, togetherness, humanity, love, and forgiveness. He noted that even if someone wronged you during the election period, the elections are now over.

He urged the public to concentrate on their businesses and avoid any form of segregation or division, especially now that Lango is organizing to welcome President Museveni.

Olipa further appealed to members to set aside old grievances and consolidate collective support for all NRM activities.

The chairperson lamented that among all sub-regions, Lango faced unique challenges yet still voted overwhelmingly for President Museveni, his parliamentary candidates, and even those competing for lower local government councilor positions.

He therefore urged Lango to be patient and wait for the positions and rewards the region will receive in the next government, which will be formed next month after the swearing-in of leaders.

Additionally, Olipa appreciated the party leaders from the grassroots structures who did tremendous work during the campaign period to ensure that all NRM candidates succeeded. He expressed happiness that Uganda is one of the countries with joyful, total peace—a peace the NRM government has brought under the leadership of Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

He called upon everyone to join him in protecting these gains.

Ahead of Museveni’s expected visit, Olipa urged the people of Lango to show him love on that day so that the sub-region may get what it is requesting.

He reminded them that in October last year, President Museveni started his general campaign in Lango, and this year he is again starting his special thanksgiving celebration in Lango.

“This means Museveni loves Lango, and we must be proud of this trust from our beloved president,” Olipa said.

Speaking in response to Olipa’s statement, Lira City NRM publicity secretary Jacob Ocen thanked the people of Lango and Ugandans nationwide for endorsing President Museveni’s leadership as NRM chairman and flag bearer in the recent election, acknowledging their unwavering support.

“….I thank the people of Lango for supporting the NRM and for upholding my president, Museveni. I also thank our daughter, the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, for her active participation in NRM politics and the development of the country, especially on health matters,” Ocen said.

Uganda now enjoys “sufficient total peace” – according to Ocen. “While the NRM and UPDF have brought peace to Uganda under President Museveni’s leadership—particularly in regions such as Lango, Acholi, Teso, and Sebei—Ugandans should continue to appreciate the NRM government.”
