Local manufacturers in Uganda are under mounting pressure, with many small and medium-sized enterprises struggling to survive as heavy taxation forces some to shut down or relocate to neighboring Kenya. Gilbert Kibekityo, a researcher and policy analyst at the Uganda Manufacturers Association, reveals that about 40 local businesses were lost last year alone. He has called on the Uganda Revenue Authority to adopt a more measured and transparent approach to taxation to safeguard both manufacturers and consumers.
