Lukwago Accuses MP Nsibambi of Diverting Public Attention Amid Post-Election Tensions

The President of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Erias Lukwago, has accused Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) National Executive Committee (NEC) member and Member of Parliament Yusuf Nsibambi of being used by the State to divert Ugandans from what he described as pressing national concerns following the recent elections.

Speaking during a morning talk show on NBS Television, Lukwago, who is also the outgoing Lord Mayor of Kampala, said he believes Nsibambi’s recent actions are intended to shift public focus from what he termed as “post-election trauma” affecting the country.

“I know Nsibambi so well. We have worked together for a long time,” Lukwago said during the broadcast. “But the current developments suggest he could be playing a scene scripted to divert Ugandans from the real issues the country is grappling with after the elections.”

Nsibambi, who recently lost his parliamentary seat, has been at the center of controversy over donations reportedly made within the constituency and alleged meetings with President Yoweri Museveni. The reported engagements have sparked debate within opposition circles, with some questioning his political stance following the electoral loss.

Lukwago stopped short of providing evidence to support his claims but maintained that the timing of Nsibambi’s actions raises suspicion.

“The country is going through a difficult moment, and instead of addressing citizens’ concerns, we are being drawn into side shows,” Lukwago said.

Efforts to obtain a comment from Nsibambi were unsuccessful by press time.

The developments come amid heightened political tensions following the recently concluded elections, with sections of the opposition raising concerns about governance, accountability, and national unity.

Observers say the unfolding situation highlights ongoing strains within opposition ranks as parties reposition themselves in the aftermath of the polls.
