Andrew Omuno, the District Education Officer (DEO) of Kwania has warned private school owners in the district against high-interest loans and school closures
Omuno delivered this message while speaking to owners of private schools during their meeting under the Kwania District Private School Owners Association.
The meeting was held at Good Foundations Junior Nursery and Primary School in Aduku town council.
DEO Omuno stated that private school owners should not take out high-interest loans that put excessive pressure on them. He stated that high interest rates have led to the eventual collapse and closure of many schools.
He further advised these private school owners to hire teachers whom they can afford to pay using the school fees collected from parents.
Failing to pay teachers’ salaries creates conflict and instability between the teachers and the school owners, he said.
Onyango John, the chairperson of private school owners in Kwania district, also advised owners of growing private schools while taking large loans, as this would lead to the death of their institutions.
Jaspher Ogwang Etik, the secretary for education and health for Inomo sub-county and councillor for Aluka parish, stated that the government should start supporting private schools by providing them with educational books.
