Diocese of West Lango, Institution of Surveyors of Uganda sign pact to control land disputes

The Diocese of West Lango has entered into a partnership and agreement with the Institution of Surveyors of Uganda (ISU). This agreement is supported by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

The ISU work will focus on development concerning disputes on foundation body land in Church of Uganda (COU) founded schools and will also handle land disputes involving over 700 acres within the diocese.

Rt. Rev. Julius Caesar Nina Otim, the Bishop of the Diocese of West Lango announced the development while delivering his Easter message at St. Peter’s Cathedral Aduku on Sunday.

He said the agreement will last one year. According to the Bishop, it aims to resolve the intense land disputes currently facing the diocese.

The Bishop further explained that the Institution of Surveyors of Uganda has already committed to this arrangement. Their upcoming activities require christians to unite and provide support in protecting church land and schools for the wellbeing of the church.

Bishop Nina added further that the partnership includes several projects: a tree-planting project where seedlings will be distributed to christians for free, the drilling of 50 free boreholes at churches across the four districts of the diocese.

Other activities include the construction of four football pitches in Oyam, Kole, Apac, and Kwania districts; and the construction of three buildings, including one for St. Luke Health Center III, a library, computer and classroom blocks at Aber Primary School in Oyam district to support children with various disabilities.

Rev. David Nelson Okello Ocen, the Chairperson of the Land Commission in the Diocese, urged christians to stand firm as truthful witnesses regarding land that was originally donated for the construction of churches and schools.
