The Buganda Kingdom has praised Equity Bank Uganda for its steadfast support towards the Kabaka’s Birthday Run 2026, highlighting the bank’s role as a key partner in promoting public health.

Speaking ahead of the 13th edition of the run set for tomorrow, the Kingdom’s spokesperson, Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, commended the bank for its continued contribution and active participation in the annual event held to celebrate the 71st birthday of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

“We appreciate partners like Equity Bank who continue to walk this journey with us. Their support not only strengthens the success of the run but also amplifies the message of fighting HIV/AIDS and improving the health of our communities,” Kitooke said.

This year’s run is held under the theme “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child,” with a focus on involving men in efforts to combat HIV/AIDS and protect vulnerable groups, particularly young girls. The initiative contributes to broader efforts aimed at ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.

Kitooke noted that the run continues to grow in impact and reach, attracting thousands of participants annually, with this year’s edition expected to draw even larger numbers.

Multiple race categories, including 5km, 10km, and 21km, have been organized to cater for participants of all fitness levels.

Meanwhile, Claver Sserumaga reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to the cause, emphasizing that the theme aligns with the institution’s mission of transforming lives and creating opportunities for prosperity.

“As Equity Bank, we proudly stand with the Kingdom in this noble cause. We share the vision of a future free of HIV/AIDS, and we are committed to playing our part in making that vision a reality,” Sserumaga said.

He added that the bank has purchased and donated 140 kits to support the run, noting that such initiatives are part of Equity Bank’s broader agenda of supporting community wellbeing. Sserumaga also revealed that he will personally take part in the 21-kilometre race as a show of solidarity.

The Kabaka’s Birthday Run has become one of Uganda’s leading health awareness platforms, rallying communities around critical issues such as HIV/AIDS.

This year’s edition is expected to once again unite thousands in promoting health, hope, and a shared responsibility for a future free of the disease.
