Ugandan movie actor and director Mathew Nabwiso has expressed confidence that the local film industry has the potential to nurture its own stars and gain global recognition.
Nabwiso says his belief is rooted in firsthand experience, having worked with several young and exceptionally talented actors whom he describes as brilliant and full of promise.

We need to nurture our local talent and turn them into stars recognized beyond our borders. Uganda has incredible actors, and it’s time the world sees their brilliance.
He noted that the industry has already made notable progress, citing Ugandan films that have successfully competed on the international stage and earned accolades over the years.
“We are doing great because we have had films that have competed internationally,” he added.
However, he pointed out that distribution remains one of the industry’s biggest challenges.
According to him, once this hurdle is addressed, the sector will be better positioned to create globally recognized celebrities.
Our main challenge has been distribution, but once we address that, we can truly create celebrities. Already, the film sector has been making significant contributions to the country’s GDP, and with the right support, its impact can grow even further.
