Ugandan artist Lil Pazo has revealed the origin of his stage name, noting that he copied it from American rapper Lil Wayne.
Now a renowned figure on the Ugandan music scene, Lil Pazo, whose real name is Yasin Mukasa, has revealed that his music journey started as a Karaoke singer.
Lil Wayne
He used to perform other artists’ songs at pubs while juggling it with his daytime hawking job to survive in Kampala.
He later met a girl who advised him to get a creative name if he wanted to become famous and also change his music style.
Lil Pazo then copied Lil Wayne’s name and added Pazo, and he has never looked back since.
I used to mime and perform songs for other artists. The likes of Ronald Mayinja. I did karaoke for a while just to survive. There is a girl who told me I wouldn’t be able to reap much from my style of music. She said I would never be famous with my old name, Sau Rambo, so she advised me to get another name.
So I got creative. There was a famous foreign artist called Lil Wayne, so I copied the “Lil” from him and added Pazo to it. She helped me so much and I am very grateful to all the girls who loved me when I was broke.
