Legendary Ugandan songstress Iryn Namubiru stresses that she never once hit the studio to record music to fuel her supposed conflict with Juliana Kanyomozi.
In an interview, Namubiru noted that her music has always been intended for her fans and never for any other hideous reason, as she never needed beef to exist.
What you think was fire, I didn’t realise. Honestly, I’m grateful it was that way, but whatever other conflicts arose, I never paid attention to them. I was just releasing songs, not caring about who did or said what.
The collabos I did, people approached me. Chameleone asked me to do Samwa Samwa, and we went to the studio. I didn’t see music that way at the time. I saw boys competing and fighting, but I never thought I would do that, and I never consciously did it.
Iryn Namubiru believes the narrative that there was beef and unhealthy competition between her and Juliana Kanyomozi was, and still is, between the fans of the artists, but never amongst the artists themselves.
It still is (a fan-based comparison and division), but I just sing. I didn’t think I needed it. I know what I am, I know what I have…I just need to give it to the people to listen, the people who believe in me, and maybe a few others who don’t really know me. That’s all.
