Mbarara-Uganda._ Joshua Okello has thrown his weight behind the incumbent Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, for a second term. Addressing journalists at Mbarara Sports Club today, Joshua described Among as a unique leader, calling her the “only matchstick in the matchbox” capable of leading the 12th Parliament.
He advised newly elected and aspiring legislators to prioritize stability by voting for Among. According to Joshua, her leadership is the surest way to guide the House toward legislative success, metaphorically stating she is the only driver capable of taking legislators to the “promised land.”

Joshua emphasized that Among’s track record is her greatest asset. He noted that her extensive experience in managing the business of the House ensures a smooth transition and effective governance for the upcoming term, regardless of the challenges ahead.
Dismissing critics who have recently voiced opposition to her leadership, Joshua was blunt. He characterized their remarks as “popcorn talk,” suggesting that the arguments against her lack substance and are merely noisy distractions from the real legislative agenda.
The prominent Teso-based lawyer, who officially launched his nationwide media campaign last month in the Teso sub-region, explained that his presence in Mbarara is a continuation of this broader effort to unify the country behind the Speaker.
Explaining his decision to go national, Joshua stated that he wants legislators across Uganda to “feel his vibe.” He noted that if his support were localized or half-hearted, he would have confined his campaigning efforts to his home region rather than traversing the country.
By taking his message countrywide, Joshua aims to build a broad consensus among lawmakers. He believes that a unified House under Anita Among’s experienced leadership will provide the continuity needed to achieve Uganda’s legislative goals in the 12th Parliament.
