Singer Clever J has opened up about the financial reality behind his much-talked-about comeback concert, revealing that he personally received Shs20 million from the event.

The singer staged his “Return Of Clever J” concert in August 2023, a show that was meant to reconnect him with fans and celebrate the timeless hits that once made him a household name. At the time, the concert was seen as a major milestone in his musical journey.

Speaking about the proceeds, Clever J disclosed that he received the Shs20 million from events promoter Bajjo, who stepped in to support the concert.

According to the singer, he had initially planned to sell his land to finance the show himself. However, Bajjo advised him against it and instead offered to spearhead fundraising efforts to ensure the concert happened without Clever J having to part with his property.

I was going to sell my land to make a concert and he stopped me and told me he was going to spearhead the fundraising to get me the money and hold the concert.

He further revealed that the money was paid in installments. He first received Shs5 million as an advance, followed by another Shs5 million. Part of this money went into buying a motorcycle for his father, a decision that has since paid off for the family.

Clever J shared that his father used the earnings generated from the motorcycle to build himself a house, something the singer says makes him proud.

Beyond supporting his family, Clever J also used part of the funds to appreciate his team. He gave some money to friends who had worked with him during rehearsals and preparations for the concert.

At the time of organizing the show, the singer says he had a song that was gaining massive attention, and he wanted to capitalize on the momentum.

I had a song that was going viral at the time and wanted to make a concert to send a message so I got some money to uplift myself and also get back to the people.
