Police in the Albertine South Region say they are investigating a fatal road traffic crash involving the LC5 chairperson of Kikuube district, Banura Peter.
The incident occurred in Butyamba village, Butyamba IDP area, Kikuube town council.
Police say the victim was reportedly knocked down by a speeding Toyota Hiace motor vehicle.
He was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. “However, the vehicle has since been recovered and impounded by police,” Rusoke Kituuma, Police spokesperson, said.
Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest the driver to assist with the ongoing investigations, he added.
