Namuwongo Blazers will be targeting an eighth consecutive victory when they face Kampala Rockets on Wednesday at Lugogo in the National Basketball League.
The Blazers have been in imperious form since their opening-day loss to City Oilers, stringing together seven straight wins to firmly establish themselves as early title contenders.
They head into this contest full of confidence and will back themselves against a Rockets side that has struggled for consistency this season.
Their most recent outing underlined their dominance, as they cruised to a 106-68 win over UPDF Tomahawks — the first time they have surpassed the 100-point mark this campaign.
The game was effectively decided in the opening quarter, where the Blazers stormed to a commanding 38-8 lead and never looked back.
Peter Obleng has been one of the standout performers this season, averaging 14 points per game, and he delivered a game-high 26 points in that emphatic victory.
He was well supported by Innocent Ochera, who added 18 points, while Arthur Wanyoto and Henry Ssebagala contributed 14 points each. Moses Mugisha also chipped in with 10 points as the Blazers showcased their depth.
In contrast, Kampala Rockets come into the fixture on a three-game losing streak, having managed just two wins in nine games so far.
Their latest setback was a narrow 68-64 loss to KCCA Panthers, despite making a promising start and leading 20-17 at the end of the first quarter.
However, inefficiency from long range and struggles on the boards proved costly.
The Rockets shot just 6-for-24 from beyond the arc, were heavily outrebounded 67-41, and committed 19 turnovers — factors that ultimately swung the game in their opponents’ favour.
Mpiya Juf led the scoring with 18 points, while Kasinde Francis added 11 and Gideon Kasasa contributed 10. But a lack of sufficient support from the rest of the roster continues to hamper their competitiveness.
