President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged all Christian faithful to contribute towards the Lweza Project which is being put in place to create wealth and job opportunities.
This was contained in a maasage read for him by the Vice President Major Jessica Alupo Epel as the Guest of Honour at the Household and Community Transformation (HCT) Thanksgiving Service and the unveiling of the ‘Zimba Lweza Project’ at Lweza Training and Conference Centre.
The President also reiterated the National Resistance Movement message on poverty eradication at the household level saying that poverty in the homesteads, is caused by subsistence farming of growing crops and rearing animals for food only, with no surplus to take to the market to earn money and as a result, the family members have no money to meet other necessities of life such as shelter, medicine, education, clothing and transport.
He noted that it is on account of this fact that the NRM government put in place the wealth funds to extend affordable credit to individuals and organised groups engaged in production of either goods or service.
President Museveni said that he was happy to observe the Lweza Project is aiming at the construction of a modern facility that offers accommodation, space for conferences which will generate jobs and incomes for many people especially the youth.
He thanked Archbishop Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu for spearheading the fundraising campaign for Zimba Lweza Project saying that Uganda boasts of an attractive investment climate, which is characterised by peace and stability, an educated and skilled labour force, modern social and economic infrastructure, such as tarmacked roads, enough electricity supply, schools and hospitals.
He thanked the entire Church of Uganda and other faith organisations, for taking advantage of the good investment climate, in the country, to create wealth and jobs, in the four sectors of commercial agriculture, industries, services and ICT saying that the existing infrastructure must be utilised to establish business ventures.
Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu thanked the people who turned to honor the Thanksgiving Service and said that the Household and Community Transformation needs about Ugx 5 billion to put up the project which is expected to be completed in 2028 and President Museveni contributed Ugx 2 billion to the project.
